Bangladesh has officially signed a landmark agreement with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group to secure around $1 billion in financing for the Eastern Refinery Modernization and Expansion Project. The signing ceremony took place on Thursday (September 3) at the Bangladesh Secretariat, in the presence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and IsDB Group Chairman Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Md. Mizanoor Rahman, Additional Secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) under the Ministry of Finance, on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh, and Anajy Isami, Director General (Country Programs), on behalf of the IsDB Group.

Following the signing ceremony, IsDB Group Chairman Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister's Office in the Secretariat. During the meeting, they discussed long-standing development partnerships between Bangladesh and the IsDB, national economic growth, investment, and expanding cooperation in infrastructure sectors, expressing optimism that bilateral cooperation will strengthen further in the future.
